Here is another two drawings that I did before the end of March, I was hoping to have three, but don’t worry I will have three, before the end of April.

Please enjoy and comment on these two, on what I can change, or what I could do improve on. If you guys like these or any drawings in particular, feel free to message me right here, and suggest some drawings that you want to see.

Thanks for being patient, as I get these drawing done for you guys.

This is going to be a very short just to show you what work we did at BCIT as a class.

We had a lot of assignments, but I can’t remember them all of the top of my head. The ones that I remember are as follows

Hi guys,

I do apologize for not posting for several months. Well this is the second drawing tutorial that I have done

1. First, decide on Method of drawing you would like (Straight through, or Step by step)

2. After, you have decided on the method, select a character (Human, Machine, Elf, Animal). Pose your character.

NOTE: Most character designs are drawn with the character standing in a pose, of some sort. In my case; I’ve drawn a character sitting.

3. Start drawing the skeleton, of the character that you wish to create.

               Take note of the hands, and shoulders, as they are only circles.

4. Once, the skeleton is complete, you are ready to go to next step. (I’m not concerned with the hair right now)

5. Now we are creating the body. While at this stage, don’t think about the details; only think of the basic shapes that would make the body

Form the arm, legs, fingers, and shoes; all of which only consist of straight lines and ovals.

The hair, at this point, can be formed.

NOTE: Don’t start erasing lines, it doesn’t have to be perfect. After all, this is just a small piece of the big picture that you want to create.

6. When your finished, you can start adding detail to your character. This is the fun part, so work out the details to your heart’s desire.

                                 Add facial features, and complete the hair.

7. Finally, add the clothes, and some lines to the clothes, to indicate the folds. If you don’t do this, especially when wearing clothes it will look awkward. This is the critical part, use physical reference, such as yourself. Without the folds, your drawing won’t be complete.

Your first character is now, fully posed, and completed. Give yourself a pat on the back.

Now, it’s time to draw the female character, which is much easier to draw. Because, you have a starting point.

Before, you proceed, in drawing your next character,

1. Take all of the papers out, and leave only the completed drawing, with the background in place.

2. Draw the skeleton, of your character.

Once again, take note of the hands and shoulders, as they are only circles.

3. Draw the basic shapes (I’m not concerned, about the hair).

                             Form the shoulders, arm, and facial features

              (I cheated on this one, by adding the facial features and hair)

4. Next, draw the hands, and clothes.

Remember, to add details to the clothes, and lines to indicate the folds. Use yourself as reference.

NOTE: The torso is blank, that is because you will not see it in the final drawing. It was done intentionally.

5. Now, that your characters are done, it is time to put it together. Remove all your papers, and leave the background and your characters.

6. Place a final sheet of paper on top of your background and characters.

7. Trace everything, you see, and when you’re done, your drawing should meet your standard. Of coarse if it doesn’t you are free to draw it again

This is my demo reel from when I was in BCIT’s Digital Animation Program. The objects in this video are all done by me, along with the animation, texturing, and some tweaks

I had six months to create all this, and I am quite pleased with the result, and will continue to create more animation.  It will definitely be a thumbs up for my skills, as well as getting to know the program.

Your L-mode activated

Exercise 1: Draw something using Reference

Take a picture from the internet or facebook (Example friend, or a dragon to list a few).  You have 30 minutes to draw the picture

As you draw, you will notice yourself, going back to the reference, trying to get basic shapes and detail, eventually you get the basic outline and detail sorted out;.  Your 30 minutes are almost gone, or it has ran out, so now take a look at what you’ve put down on paper, you say to yourself “I thought I would have more by the end of the 30 minutes.

This is what will happen if we are to critical, using the reference, don’t worry about the details get the basic shapes first, then go into the details, because you only have a certain time limit

Exercise 2: Drawing from Memory

Now try to draw something from your imagination, since this is from your memory I tend to go a little bit more on the creative side, and knowing that it is my own creation.  You have 30 minutes to draw something from memory, and you will find that it isn’t easy because your L-mode is still saying “this doesn’t look right, but instead of letting your L-mode do the talking, let your R-mode take over.

Character Creation

Exercise 3: Draw a picture upside down

Here are the steps

1. Print out a reference
2. Look at the reference right side up
3. Flip it upside down, and start drawing from the bottom to the top
4. Whatever you do, don’t flip the picture right side up
5. Time limit is 1 hour
6. At the end of the 1 hour, flip your paper right side up, and compare how close you got it to look like the reference

Extra Mini-Exercises are:

Draw your hand, as a reference, and take as long as you need

Then your going to draw your hand again, but this time draw it without looking at the paper.  Just look at your hand, you have 30 minutes to complete it.  At the end of the 30 minutes, look at what you’ve drawn, a whole bunch of line that makes no sense to you, which means for the 30 minutes you’ve been drawing you’ve been able to use your R-mode, instead of your L-mode.

The second Mini-Exercise is:

Draw a cup

You will notice that once you’ve drawn the cup, and shade in the cup, you will see two faces, and if you do it in reverse you will see a cup.  This is what we call an alpha channel in Maya, and how the program determines black and white is black = 0 while white = 1, and gray is = 0.5.  Black as you know is total darkness, and white is actually color, now that we have established the difference between white and black to create the alpha you would need to invert the selection, so that the white is in the image and the black is in the background.  The reason for this is that when you apply the image to an object in Maya, you will see the object filled with the texture.  However, not all objects needs to have an alpha channel it is only the objects that you want to make transparency, then you would use an alpha, and save it as a Targa in Photoshop, as a 32 bit.  Targa is the only file format that will ask you whether you want to save as a 16, 24, or 32 bit, and in Photoshop we have an RGB (Red, Green, and Blue) value, all of which contains 8 bits.  Which makes a total of 24 bit, but with the alpha added, it adds another 8 bits, making a total of 32 bit.

Cup and Face Effect

Another question would be: What happened to your dream? There, once was a spark that kept that dream alive, where is that spark of excitment. When someone looked at you at first glance they would say “My oh my, why are they always smiling, dreams are unique to each individual it is the essence  that drives the individual to pursuit it futhur, no matter how much problems they are faced with. Even if we don’t know how one idea got into our heads ever thought and considered that it was pre-ordined, you and I have been called to a greater destiny in life. One thing that I will tell for sure, is that I grew up with the concept of having a dream that was so big that it was impossible to achieve, but if you concentrate, and pursuit it with all of your heart, mind, and soul you will see the fruit that you produced, over time as you went through those troubles.

I’ve noticed one thing, and that is every time I overcame a fear or obsticle, the next obsticle will be harder, but you would be prepared to face it, through something I like to call “Faith”. I’ve learned many lessons and overcame obsticles, using this method, to some, however think that I’m living in a fantasy world of my own, and that is fine, all of us have our ways to overcome our fears. I don’t have the right to tell you how to overcome them, but I will give you advice if you asked.

To me “Dreams” help me set my goals in life, and a life without its twist and turns there is no life, and the question simply is: What are we living for? Live with expectency, and pursuit what you were destined to do. Whatever you do, don’t ever let anyone tell you that you can’t do it, if someone was to say that me I would simply reply “How do you know” “have you tried it before?” But let them say what needs to be said, and in your own way, somehow prove them wrong.

As I depart for the night, I leave you with this in your mind “Don’t ever underestimate your abilities in life.

Before we begin, you must have these supplies?

1) A set of drawing pencils (2B, 3B, 4B etc).
2) Something flat to draw on, or any flat surface
3) Fine tip marker, or drawing pen
4) Graphite stick
5) Paper
6) View finder
7) Metal or plastic ruler
8) Paper Towel
9) Eraser

If you have one of the drafting tables, then use tack or tape to make sure your paper is secure. Take the view finder and draw a border, this will be used to define the perameters of your draawing. Than take your ruler and graphite stick and begin to chip at the stick, in a chopping motion, to get bits from it, and once you got enough bits, take the paper towel and rub it on the paper to spread it around.

As you spread it, you will notice that the paper is getting darker. Keep doing this, until you are satified with the darkness of the paper, also make sure that your line is dark enough for you to see, once your done with the set up of your page; take your eraser and look at the highlights on your reference. Once you are done erasing the dark areas on your paper, take your 4B pencil, fill in the shadows, when you are finished with your drawing; you will notice the highlights (The white areas that you erased) forms the figure or shape.

These are ten questions that we ask ourselves, about every day problems, whether it is in our heads; or out loud.  But despite problems (BIG/small) it is conquoring it, which will make us stronger.  After all, if we can’t conquer the problem, it will conquor us, thus we will forever be trapped.  If that happens how will we ever conquer future problems/fears for that matter.  We can’t linger in our past, but continue to move on, no matter what the circumstances are in life, and to be honest; sometimes I don’t like life in general, but we can’t run from the problem, but face it head on.
